I like it, but it needs more wing.

meh, I dont think the classic STi wing will look good on the new car, the trunk lid seems too small. I just dont like how the new STi are "toned" down for the moderate buyer. Its isnt a moderates car, its and enthusiast car. I drove a 2009-10 STi, the clutch felt like a Honda, gray seats, overuse of electronics. But the sedan looks better with the widebody

The great thing about my 04 Sti is that its pure mechanical simplicity. a wheel, and simple lights for the DCCD, not a computer menu. The gears and clutch feel like a tractor, but thats a good thing. IMO

The center console on the new cars is pretty damn nice.

This definitely looks worlds better than the hatch design. I would love to see this sort of styling on an STi sedan or even coupe.
Actually a +22 should do it...

Wait...a STi "mechanical simplicity"???

Try driving my 1990 Miata. Throttle cable, no abs, no airbags, mechanical diff, no a/c, manual convertible top. Oh it does have the high tech option of power steering, but that's it.

I'm not bashing the STi, I have an 04 STi myself. But to call the STi mechanical simplicity is like calling the Iphone a phone.

The wife likes this one. I might consider in the future. Maybe the hatch for me and the sedan for her. I need to get a garage for these toys though...

Fair enough, my language might have been a bit flowery. My brothers 88 Porsche 911 is mechanical bliss. I feel you on the 90 miata as well.

But, if you compare the 04's to the new STi's you cant help but notice the overuse of electronics (IMO). What was so wrong about a simple switch and a wheel for the DCCD, they didnt need to bring an on dash computer screen into the equation. The clutch on the 04's is hard to push in, I like it like that. The new one felt like a base model Honda in comparison.

The new car felt to me, like it had been focus grouped to death.

Finally, Subaru got the styling right (or at least more right). When was the last time that you actually enjoyed your first look at a new MY Impreza? That's right, never. They all grow on us (except the 08-10 :P ) but this is a definite improvement.

The only thing I don't like about the new WRX's is the lack of a rear LSD. VDC is no replacement for a real LSD.

Here's the articles I've read on the '11 today:
