1996 Impreza L 2.2L N/A Not starting
Hey guys. So my roomy drove to Dole Cannery and after going thru a puddle the car died. I DO NOT hear any priming from the fuel pump and only get 4.3volts when key is on. I DO NOT see ANY blown fuses in the engine bay or under the dash board. I also hear no clicks when turning the key to the ON position. Any ideas?? I am not very good with tracking down problems between point A and B.
I still have to
-pull plugs and crank to make sure all H2o is outta cylinders,
-smell for fuel in cylinder
-check spark plug spark
**PS Most of the Nasioc and 2.5RS sites die out before a solution or pan out to have a working fuel pump and the problem lying somewhere else

how long after the puddle did it die? was it a while after or in the puddle? where did you get the 4.3v reading? have you tried a battery you know is good or tried jumping it to see if you can turn it over? need more information otherwise i'm gonna say it's the headlight bearings shorting out your flux capacitor.

Immediately after the puddle.
4.3volts at the fuel pump connector that only came when key was turned to ON position.
Car cranks no problem and did try to supplement it with a jump to see if it would help.
I had a similar problem a little ways back with my car. Problem was the rear O2 sensor would short and blow the SBF No. 5 on my car. Replaced my sensor and fuse and that worked for me but in this cars case no fuses are blown. I gotta still track down relays

just gotta find out what it is... or just let the dang thing dry out before you blow something electrical out.

So I pulled plugs and they smell of gas even though I don't hear the fuel pump at all. I test the pump and it runs with 12v applied. I also don't think there is spark. I crammed a tester inside a wire and got nothing. Also put a spark plug in one and grounded the plug body and got no spark when cranking.

So manically after pulling fuel pump re installing, piling plugs and re installing. The fuel pump now primes. I think we're having a no spark problem

Check your igniter chip. Located above the dog bone. Its 5 wires. Swap out a new one and it should fire up. If you have any wrecking yards around, any 93-97 Impreza, Legacy will interchange.

Went down today and looked at the ignitor chip and wiggled it and tried to start. It fired up. Not sure if it needed to dry out or the wiggling did it as I didn't try before I went down. Thanks for help and suggestion iclub.
