The FXT already puts out between 230-240hp crank stock. It's way above the rated 210hp. The motor in the Legacy is still the same 2.5L as the one in the FXT and the STi, but w/a different turbo (larger than FXT/WRX's TD04, but smaller than the VF in the STi).
My question is if the WRX will receive a tougher transmission to cope w/the higher HP/TQ figures. It would be nice if it had the FXT's beefy tranny.

quoted from ScubieDoobieDoo:
[i am a dealer. i also knew about the 2.5l 300hp in the STI almost 8 months before it was announced. i also knew the FXT and Bajahahaha Turbo will take the 2.5 block(no, not the same as the semi-closed deck of the STI) as the FXT. and i had an 'idea' that SoA would do the same with the LGT. so, from someone that seems to have been pretty dang accurate for the last 9 years of selling subies and 15 years of owning them, here's the deal....
06 WRX will have a 2.5l...approx 230hp(don't know tq #s, though...) i was hoping for the LGT drive/powertrain, but oh well. if you consider the FXT and it's set up with 210hp is faster than the WRX, then the 06 WRX at 230 should be a great improvement. of course, the FXT is also going to 230hp.
the STI should settle in around 330ish hp, NOT 400hp!!(unless, SoA is doing a hell of a job keeping the word mum...). also, coming in fall of 05, as on 06, there 'might' be a run of 500 LGT Spec Bs!!! most likely 2.5l with twin scroll turbo, running around 270-285hp....
but, i'm just a dealer]
if they did bring LGTspecB's over, i'd drop everything and grab one if they capped at $45ish(which i doubt)

I don't disagree, but it's very frustrating for me. It seems to me that Subaru has only gotten it right twice (v7 and v8) but we can only get those prizes if we 'import' at a very high cost.
The EJ257 just seemed like the easy way to go. The torque is a nice payoff, but the string of bad #4 pistons across the EJ257 swappers across the country is getting to be a little depressing.
I will say that I was smart enough to have the v7 tranny and heads, though.
I'd easily trade my block for a 2.0 v7, too, but I still want to see what the potential of the 257 will be.

There can't be more than a few pounds of difference in the EJ257 block. I think this is a good move for Subaru. We don't get real STi's in the first place. People are making over 500WHP on stock STi blocks. Who knows how long it will safely run, but we have to take what we can get. If we had a internals, and tuning like the JDM Impreza's do stock there would be no complaints from anyone. We could easily make more power. In an ideal world though I would much rather have a true STi. When Dave, the APS rep, came from Austrailia he explained the full logic of subaru using the forester short block. JDM STi's cost about 50k brand new. Not many of us would be willing to pay that price for the car. Subaru had to cut costs, and now they are cutting costs further by making as universal as a set-up as possible. I think it is a good move with some tuning there should be no reason why the car can't really get some peppyness from the 2.5. I do hope that they use the V6 STi tranny that the XT got. I do see that SOA is going to have the same problem SOJ had several years ago. That was that the STi was a beafy WRX, so everyone bought STi ECU's and turbos. For thousands less they had a WRX that was as fast as an STi.
