04 STi Sway Bar Issue
All,
I finally got a response from Z1 about the endlink problem that I had. Finding out, according to Z1, that the 04 model of the Cusco Sway bar won't fit on the STi. After purchasing it and DOUBLE CHECKING with the buyer if it will fit on the STi, I'm finding this out. Therefore, I install it and my endlinks went the wrong way and are now bent to he11. I spent alot of money on getting these parts and carefully installed them with the help of others. Now I'm finding out that the parts I bought don't even fit my car. VERY distrubing and VERY upset. Now I have to buy new endlinks and then put my factory sway bar back on. I don't think modding a car is fun anymore...GRRRRRR!!!
Anyhow, looks like I maybe selling a Cusco Sway Bar for an 2004 WRX NOT STI...again NOT STI.

Looking on Gruppe-S, they have the sway bars divided as '02+ WRX and 04+STi. Based off of that, the sway bar you have will actually fit '02-'04 WRX's. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me here. If I'm right, gimme dibs & let me know how much you want for it!!!
edit: Sorry, for got to ask this: Why won't Z1 replace it with a sway bar made for your car? It seems like this is their F&$k-up, they should send you the correct one.

There are 2 swaybars...one for 02+ WRXs and one for the STI. You really need to be careful when dealing with vendors....they are not necessarily knowledgeable about what they sell. Saying that, I thought Z1 was one of the vendors that clearly stated they carried the correct bar (CUS-669-311BJ22).....its very likely the numbers got mixed up along the way, the WRX bar only has a single digit thats different.
Maybe this is why you were able to get a RSB when they were out of stock everywhere
I'm sure you can find a buyer that drives a WRX. Maybe you can get one from gruppe-s or look into the SG Cusco purchase coming up.

I asked if the one they sent was the correct one when you told us about the problem I think that they should buy new end links for selling you a product not fit for you car...

I double checked and that is the model I do have in possession. I do have the correct Sway Bar for the STi. Now, my question is. There are 3 holes on the bar; labeled A through C. Does it matter which hole that I install the bolts in?? I can't read japanese and that is what my instructions are in. There are many numbers in columns/rows in the back sheet and I have no clue what it is telling me. I have installed the bar in the middle holes, labeled B. Is this correct or what? Again, Z1 did send me the correct sway bar. He states the only way that could have happened is inproper installation. Oh well. Thanks again for the feedback.

It dosen't matter what hole you put it on it won't cause what happened on your car. If it is the correct one I am unsure what caused it to flip down??? Do you still have it on the car and if you do has it did it again...

Its still on the car and no it hasn't happened again. I keep checking every other day or so. I just need to get new endlinks and Z1 doesn't sell them for the STi. I need to find them elsewhere.

This is a common problem. Almost everyone with the cusco sway bar that drives semi aggresively is having this problem. It is a known issue with the "correct" sway bar. The actual answer is to get different endlinks. If I recall correctly, it takes longer ones.

AHHHH....I did pull into the parking lot at Ward Center Farmers Market when I first heard the noise. Possibly making the right turn into the lot, the right rear when down when the left rear went up and twisted the endlink. Or whatever it does. I'm searching for better endlinks right now. If you have ideas/choices/options, please post so I can purchase new ones soon and get them installed. Thanks for the advice.
BTW...when this happened...I never cornered hard since I had it installed. So the only reason was entering the parking lot. I won't be parking there again. HEHE.

I have encountered this before
I bent my endlinks when my buddy installed my swaybar incorrectly. Now you are asking how someone could install a rear swaybar wrong. The enlinks were facing down instead of up when he bolted the sway bar to them. I had to purchase new enlinks from my dealer after this happened.
Here's pics of how it should look. The wrong installation would be with the links swiveled down.
The bar can still attach, but it will be innefective and it will bend the endlinks. When installed incorrectly, you will encounter a noise/clunk under hard cornering and entering driveways. This is the end of the swaybar touching the lateral links. You can see on the right side below the endlink, a small rust spot, this is where it was hitting.

Since I replaced the endlinks correctly, there have been no issues. DO NOT change your stock endlinks. If you have the correct swaybar, the stock links will be the best. The stock links allow for proper wheel travel=traction.
Hope this helps.
