Haha, everyone complaining about how hard it is to shift into Reverse

On the rare occasion that I use reverse and get locked out, I have found that going into 1 and then R (no clutch movement, just keep it to the floor the whole time) seems to be pretty smooth.

I.E.) I roll into the lot in 2 or 3 and then find a spot and trow it in R (from 2 or 3) to park. But, "aw crap" I can't get it into R, slide it into 1 and then go to R. and it is all bueno.

I gotta say parallel parking on a hill with a manual suby that has a hill holder, pretty sweet. I never use reverse, just let her roll backwards while in 1.

i have trouble getting into Reverse too. I just back it out to neutral repress the clutch and try again. btw..subie trannie need to have precise movement for shifting from 2-3 and 3-4. I was missing gears while first driving the 09 wrx. I also drove an 05 legacy GT and it was the same. Honda trannies are much more forgiving. I've also owned an evo 8 and it wasn't as forgiving as the wrx. so i think subie trans are just that way.

I also use the trick of going into 1st, then reverse, while leaving the clutch in.

bump. has anyone with a 08+ rex have this kind of clutch noise during cold starts? its kind of hard to describe. but I never hard any problems with the noise since it goes away after it warms up. sorta like a petpeeve to me.

I think that I get 2 noises while the car is warming up. I first get a "rubbing" sound when I press the clutch in. It is almost like everything is not fully disengaged. Then later I get a "thunk" which I always thought was maybe the ebrake or the hill start assist letting go. Is that something that you are hearing? These are just my theories anyway. I've never had any transmission problems. (knocks on wood)

First noise is an air pump. Clutch noise is most likely the throwout bearing. Then, the initial 50 feet of moving forward thunk noise is the VCS or some other traction control system. All normal noises.

Again, normal. The dealer wont do anything about it. If they do, tell us please.

i have a chirping/whistling noise when the car is cold and you hold down the clutch pedal. after the car warms up, it goes away. i never heard this sound the first winter i had the car. only in the past few months.

i actually have my car at the dealer right now trying to diagnose the problem. they thought it was maybe the release bearing or pilot bearing...

Please update if the dealer replaces anything. I to have this issue but told it was normal and not to worry about it by the dealer. Honestly had no sounds when the clutch was out when the car was new. After a year the sounds started. BTW, the last three cars I had also made this noise after a year or so...never made a difference in shifting, just whining and maybe even a jingling sound.

i got my car back today. they found that my release bearing spring was cracked and broken. they replaced the release bearing and pressure plate. i haven't had a chance to check for the chirping noise, but i guess i'll be able to in the morning.

they gave me an estimate of $500. it feels like that's what they were going to charge me if the repair wasn't covered under warranty, but it was. whew...

Yeah. mine is a little different. All noises start once I release the clutch pedal in neutral. No noises at all when the pedal is pressed to the floor.
