At 1,000 miles on my new XT, the check engine light came on, and the cruise control became disabled. I was aware that the light, and disabled cruise control, can be a result of a loose gas cap, but I am 100% certain the cap was tight. A check of the turbo hoses showed nothing wrong. After a few days of driving to make doubly sure the problem wasn't a loose cap, the dealer checked the error code, and it pointed to the gas cap. I've got a feeling Subaru is going to be having continual warranty trouble with this annoying feature. Anyone else having unexplained check engine light problems?

 

Thanks for the reply, Lakepop. A service mgr told me that seasonal changes in gas additives can cause the same problem. The battery disconnect idea is one I hadn't heard before. Tks again.

 

I got a solid check engine light now too. I was driving on the freeway and all of the sudden it just came on. I am suspecting that it's probably my Borla Headers throwing off the O2 sensor. I have had the headers on for about 20K miles though. Does anyone know where I can get the code pulled for free? If it's the O2 sensor, then it's an easy fix. Also, if it is, does anyone know where I can get that resistor with the wires that goes to the sensor to turn the check engine light off?

Somebody said that autozone will read them for free but I haven't tried.
