WRX brake swap
WRX brake swap
hey guys i have a 99 L (with rear drum brakes), and i have a chance to get a set of WRX brakes, complete front set and just rear rotors for about 160$, in good condition too.
Is the L to WRX brake swap a big improvement? This might a self explanitory question but i just wanted to get other opinions.
Thanks

You'll feel a pretty noticeable difference with just the larger front rotors. It's not night and day though so don't get your hopes up about eyeball popping decel. Remember you will need 16" wheels to clear the WRX fronts. The rears discs will fit under 15" wheels.
For converting the rears to disc you will also need at least the brake plate, calipers, pads, hoses and parking brake cables. Most people swap on the entire rear disc knuckle assemblies because it's less work but you can do it with just the parts I listed.

Rear Drums
I had an L coupe for 110,000 miles.
The rear drum brakes are fairly large for a car of this size.
They did the job.
I did not have to replace the linings until 80,000.
There are so many OTHER things you could do to the car....
