What's next?
Hello guys..I need your professsional advice.
I just purchased a 97 Impreza sedan 2.2L. and want to tune it up a little bit..(No turbo or some really hard core stuff..)Just installed new wheels on it - Motegi FF5 217/40/17 and wondering what should I do next? Intake?? Suspension? - And what brand or type?
Thank you very much.

From what I understand (though being a Subie-newbie), an exhaust would be a good step. There's a multitude of threads about them on here.
What kind of tires did you wrap your car in? A good tire can make a lot of difference. BTW...there is no 217. I assume you have 225s?

Oh, sorry for 217..215 actually(misprinted)..
I`ve got Dayton ZR tires - 215/40ZR17. Not sure if they are good or not really..
What kind of exhaust should I install? Actually, is it a good idea to install a strait pipe isntead of a catalyc converter?
Thanks guys.

Nah, those tires aren't very good. If you can afford them get S03s on the 17s for summer and a set of snow tires on the stockers for winter.
Anyways, I would keep a catalytic converter simply because removing a functioning catalytic converter is a federal offense that carries a huge fine should youy be cited for it. But a full custom exhaust (2" or 2.25" for the EJ22) with a high flow cat would give you 10-15 peak power with nice gains throughout the rev range. Just be sure to resonate your exhaust if you are concerned about sound. Boxer motors get loud without them, plus Subarus are very distinct to begin with.

a drop in filter is a very cheap and effective first mod, complements the exhaust nicely. Headers would be a good next step after that, as would pullies. You might also want to think about some suspension mods (RSB!, springs, struts). Welcome to subaru.

Just the filter. Intakes can have negative effects on MAF sensor based engines. However, I wouldn't even do that. Just make sure the stock paper filter is clean.

Mass Air Flow as opposed to Manifold Absolute Pressure. Two ways of measuring pretty much the same thing, how much air is going in your engine. I'd say don't bother with a cone filter, like BAN says. Go with a FRAM paper filter for your stock air box. I've had really good luck with them and they have a huge increase in media area compared to the OE paper filter.
