Weapon R Dragon intake
I just ordered the weapon r dragon intake for my 2003 impreza rs, and i have read all reviews and they all seem to say its a good setup except for the filter, i was wondering if anyone knows what size K&N air filter i need to replace the cheap foam cone filter that it comes with.

It's not really the filter that's the problem, it's the fact it is a 'short ram' intake. It pulls hot air into the engine instead of cold outside air. Cancel if you can and buy a true cold air intake if you must have one.

It is easily the worst N/A Impreza intake made. You loose alot of torque and dont gain much in return. Most of the J-bend style intakes have this problem though, but the Weapon-R's cheap construction magnifies its problems.
The best RS intakes are the COBB, Ganzflow style intake (or PDM) with custom 3" airbox mod, and the Injen full intake that goes into the fender well. The "ram-air" style intake utilizing the functionless hood scoops on the GC's also works too.
The rest just suck hot air, literally.

I have an 02 RS and I will tell you try to not run that filter that comes with it at all. If you do you could litterally suck a bug through it. It is the most incredible pile of junk. I switched out a new filter and yeah it sounds loud but didn't help much. I can't wait to sell it when I get my cobb...might find someone that wants it for $40

Mine will not suck in hot air because i have a VIS carbon fiber hood with the wrx hood scoop, so this short ram induction will have fresh air to breath, i wanted to utilize the scoop that is why i went with this intake, and aem hasn't produced their short ram yet. and if you look at the dyno test results this intake actually increased the torque and horsepower more than most other brands including aem and cobb.

How will the carbon hood with scoop help give fresh air? the filter is quite a ways away from the scoop. It seems the way it would work best would be if you had a gravel sports intake to utilize that scoop giving true fresh air. If its the weapon R you can upgrade it to get a ram air kit if you choose to I guess. Where did you see these dyno's ? I would be curious to see them since I have the same Weapon R that you just got.
I have a crapy JDM short ram intake and it sux. I just ordered the COBB and can't wiat. Hood scoop or no hood scoop a short ram intake is going to take in much hotter air than a true cold air going into the fender well. Thats the only way you'll get real "fresh air."
However, the other problem with the cheaper intakes is the way the are mounted, especially considering the MAF sensors. Since they don't use the basic 4-legged spider design on the manifold the intake bounces and rattles like hell at high RPM's. This cause turbulance in the intake and the sensors don't work well when there being slamed around, obviously. This sends incorrect info from the MAF sensore to the ECU actually restricting air at higher RPM's. This kills top end pick up with the intake. Just cough up the money and get a decent intake. You'll be happy in the long run.

Well i am probably going to get the ram air induction connection, it connects on to the end of the filter and it has a flexible hose with a plastic piece where the fresh air goes into, and you can mount it anywhere.
But if anyone wants to see dyno tests for the weapon r that show it gives more of a gain than most systems here it is.

Um yeah...I was hoping to see a graph. Not to discredit you or the product. I can make a spreadsheet as well as most anyone on here that could show one over the other. I have a friend that put this Ram Air kit on his BMW 318ti and yeah it did make an improvement quite a bit. I think the Ram Air tube is where the power comes from and that would definately give the clean air. Maybe change the square look to a round look and mount it in one of the fog light locations of actually put it in the fender making it a cold air intake. But I wonder about the durability of a plastic tube. Oh yeah I almost got my car stuck tonight in deep river rock and playing in a shallow creek. Creek + Deep River Rock + Testosterone is never a good combo!
