Using 5W oil

So it seems most typical oils in stores are now 5W-30 or 40 or whatever. Would using a lighter weight oil be a good idea since it can still protect up to the same temperatures as the 10W-xx? I usually run Castrol Syntec 10-30 (40 when available) and I have the old school motor with hydraulic lash adjusters and synthetic seems to be the best with them. Thanks

I think that would overall be a bad idea. Especially with older engines, it is better to run an oil with a higher viscosity than lower. I think it basically helps the worn parts of the motor to stay lubricated. So, i believe 20W would be better if you wanted to change it up, but 10W should be just fine. Just what I've heard.
