Spark Plug wires- any thoughts?

I've had Sparkco 9mm Blue wires for about 3 years now.
I've been very happy with the look and the performance "gains". However, recently a severe misfire in Cylinder #2 was traced to a bad plug wire. One of the Sparkcos burned a hole thru the boot.

I contacted Sparkco for a replacement, as they are supposed to be under lifetime warranty. However, I've heard horror stories about dealing with Sparkco.

What about Magnecores? Anyone have experience with their 8.5 or 10mm wires? Where do I purchase them?

Thanks!

Go to google
search for the words Magnecore and Subaru
click away at the endless amount of information.

I definitely trust magnecore over some knockoff. With a name like "sparkco" isn't it obvious they're trying to ride on the tail of Sparco? Wouldn't that be akin to getting a motech system exhaust?

I've used Magnecor on my RS they are good but OEM are also very good an don't cost as much. Wires will not give any performance gain. They will only be a detremant if they are bad is all.

That shouldn't happen to a set of spark plug cables with good quality silicone boots. I don't think the exhaust manifold comes close enough to the boots to burn through like on pushrod V-8 engines.

Was the cable intact or did arcing burn through the boot? If the the cable had a break in it, it will try to arc to the nearest ground whenever that cylinder fires.

The cable portion is fine; the boot has a small hole about 2" up from the spark plug end; it started to arc through from the inside out, and was sending a spark to the inside of the head (spark plug bore).

I sent an email to Peter Luk at Sparkco at his request (He would not take any information over the phone); but have no response whatsoever yet. The wires do have a lifetime warranty, according to one of the distributors.

After reading the Mazda forums about their nightmares dealing with Sparkco, I'm not getting a "warm fuzzy feeling".

Better Business Bureau, here I come........

I never had mine pop off but when you hook them on the plug you don't get that nice positive "Click" you get with the OEM plugs. I can see where they might comeoff. As I said it never happened to me but I too have read of people having this problem. I still think OEM are the way to go.

I found that you can modify a set of MSD wires meant for honda (prelude, I think). make sure on the length and you'll have to trim the rubber gasket on the extension as well cut the other ends and install MSD straight ends. Other than that no problems. Oh yeah, re-gap the plugs bigger too (.055-.060?)
