Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

T-belt question...

I removed the accesory belts and pulleys. I am now ready to remove the crank pulley, but of course I can't remove the bolt because I can't lock it in place. I recall reading that someone locked it via the flywheel(?) How is this done? Anyone have any pics? I've spent a lot of money recently and prefer not to buy any more tools--hint, hint Thanks in advance.

are you able to put a screw driver in place and lock it up from moving? try it and see if it'll work (reverse order for installation)

To remove the crank pulley, you must put the car in 5th gear and have someone step on the brakes otherwise the car will roll back when you're trying to take the pulley off.

Hmm...AT huh...Can't you just leave it in park then? Guess I can't help you much about the AT part, since I'm accustomed to MT.

that's the weird part. I thought leaving it in park would lock it, but it doesnt?

Im a subaru Tech and I use a chain wrench on the crank pulley, should be 30-40 bucks
Or you could try having someone hold a long 12mm wrench on the torque converter bolt thru the access hole while you break the bolt loose.
I think the chain wrench is better though

Also if the tranny is in park on an auto trans car it will not hold the engine from moving as the torque converter will spin. if it did hold the engine from moving in park the engine wouldn't run in park, like running an engine in gear on a manual with the clutch out
