Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Subaru is acting a fool! Help!

So... I can't tell what it's doing. Here are the symptoms

When I get on the gas during acceleration, like on ramps or even just needing to speed up from 2nd to 3rd sometimes I feel a loss in power. It's sporadic, like when my foots on the gas it feels like it bogs/powers back/bog/powers back on and off, on and off. I have a bad knock sensor that I need to replace and thats all that I know that needs a fix.

From a dead stop it will bogg and then gain all it's power back all at once (if that makes sense) but that only happens once in a while, and it's not because of my ability to drive a standard transmission I assure you.

Car is a 2002 RS, 80K on it

Any help would be great.
Thanks
-Robert

Sounds like it might be a fuel delivery issue. Mod list would be nice.

Does your car idle steady or is it a little rough? rough idle might point toward fuel issue as well.

Full header back exhaust. Borla header, Random technologies HFC, stromung catback. I have a very minor exhaust leak on the Header/HFC connection and really only is there during warm up until the gasket swells n seals. It used to have short ram intake but it's back to a stock intake.

Come to think of it, it does have a rough idle on occasion. Could the filter be clogged? I got fuel at a pretty sketch place coming back from vegas in the middle of East Jesus Nowhere, Nevada. Or is more of a bad injectors kind of thing?

If it sounds like it's choking, and you gas it and it just feels like it Boggs and dies, it could be as simple as bad spark plugs or bad coil packs. That's what happened to my old g35. It'd idle kind of roughly, it started randomly, and it wasn't too bad at first but it got worse by the day. Check the packs by interchanging them and sparks are cheap so get another set.

It's never died on me but it does bog sometimes when I'm trying to accelerate. It's very random and doesn't always happen

Do you have HID?

Make sure the grounds are to metal in the engine compartment.

My 02 wrx did this and I re-grounded the wiring harness and used a dremmel to scratch off the paint for the grounds.

im also having the same issues on my 02 2.5rs except ive done everything i could think

changed plugs, wires, switched out coil pack with a known good one, replaced knock sensor, MAP sensor, fuel pump, fuel filter, Crank sensor, Camshaft sensor

NOTHING worked

and just like you, mine will drive perfectly fine at times and then go to hell and go back to normal..

How are you tuned?

When you went back from the short ram did you unplug the negative on the battery to reset the computer?

Also the knock sensor being bad may be causing the computer to pull timing....

My wrx did this when I had a k&n typhoon on a cobb stage two....When I put the stock intake back on and reset the computer it fixed the problem.

I am really inclined to say the knock sensor is pulling timing though....

Try cleaning the MAF sensor. Could be giving a bad reading to the ECU. Is the air filter dirty?
