Stromung Dual Tip for '01 2.5RS

I'm driving around a 2001 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS (which I love) but I was wondering about putting on a Stromung dual tip exhaust. I have previously installed a Weapon R intake for a little kick. My question is about the manufacturer's catalytic converter. Should I invest in a full cat-back exhaust system or would the dual tip muffler suffice? Keep in mind that I am also looking for a gain in horsepower as well as resonant tone. Please offer any and all information regarding this sort of modification.

The cat-back doesn't replace the cat, just everything past it. I have the duel tip Stromung on my 00 RS, and I realy like it, but I only got the axle back, not the cat back. The cat back will free up a touch more power, but it may cost you a touch of the low end power. I've also heard that the cat back can make the interior kinda loud, but I've never been in an RS with a cat back, so I have no personal experience. When I put my can on, the interior was pretty boomy, almost too loud, but the sound did mellow out after a week or so, once the muffler broke in, I guess. Just a warning for when you put yours in.

So what kind of horsepower and torque gains can I expect from the stromung dual tip exhaust? Is the tone throaty and racy? Basically what I'm getting at is should I invest in the exhaust; is it significantly better performance? I do have an intake system also.

The Stromung is often considered the best sounding of all GC exhausts, although there are others who will of course disagree. It will give power gains as good as any other cat back system, maybe 3 hp on average and 5-7 peak.
Stromung makes a high flow cat as well. I'd go for the whole cat-back if I were you. Little more power and better sound. Stromungs are somewhat loud, but not bad. They sound good regardless. Be sure to pay the extra money for stainless steel.

I'm in the market for an exhaust as well and Stromung definitely seems to be the weapon of choice. My goal is to get as much performance as possible with as little sound as possible.
If I understand it correctly, a cat-back eliminates the silencer, which is why it is noticably louder.
Could someone give their opinion of what to use in regards to headers, cat (OE or high flow), silencer, and muffler? Which should be replaced and/or what should be eliminated to achieve power without going deaf in the process. Thanks!

I'm gonna bump this with another question...
Adding on to my last question about what combination to use with exhaust, header, and cat: will any one section be useless to upgrade without another? I.e. is there a single bottleneck in the exhaust system that must be improved in order for any other component upgrade to be worth while?
Thanks!

i can't comment on the single tip, but one of my friends has a dual tip on his '01 RS (along w/ a Cobb intake) and it sounds great. it's a bit louder on the highway, but it's a nice sound and not that bad. i think it aso loks nicer than the single tip. a bit more subtle.
at first, he also had the borla headers and the random tech cat, but WOW. waaaay too loud for everyday commuting (not to meantion the CEL), but the car sounded MEAN. he says he didn't notice much loss of power when he switched back to the stock headers/cat.
