Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

port matching?

Should I or shouldent I?
I need to replace my head gaskets and I know When I have the heads off I am going to look at them and be tempted to break out my die-grinder and go to town. Mind you I have ported and port matched heads and intakes before so I'm not totaly clueless.. What I am wondering is , Is there enough metal around the exhaust and maby intake ports to port match, or will I cutt into a water jacket?

ok 19 views and nada.
I found info on porting out the trotel body and i will be doing that but nothing on head work?
I am very worried about the water jacket around the intake and exhaust ports.. I wish there was a way to find out how thick that material is.

well guys I just figgued i would give an update...
intake manafold matched the ports to the gaskets with the exception of the boxed in area around the fule injector; I left the port rough but not gouged to hopefully promote fule dispersel.
Intake port; I matched the port size to the gasket size (about 1/4 inch off with) and razor edged the divider between the valves, left it rough but not gouged.
exhaust port; Again matched to the gasket (about 1/2 off of the diamater) and made it as smooth as i could.
Every thing turned out well, I noticed a bit of a gain, the power band seems smoother and it revs qucker. I dont know if this was because of the port matching or getting all the carbon out of the combustion chamber. I feel a bit silly about worrieing about going through to the water jacket... ther is alot of 'meat' around the port. I have pictures of the port diffrences here https://www.i-club.com/forums/ongoing-projects-31/gc8-head-gasket-replacement-portmatch-project-104154/
