OBS performance questions
Hello all,
I have a 97 OBS 5-speed with 118K miles on it. I got it as a salvage, very light front damage, and use it for EVERYTHING!! lol I drive the hell out of it. This is my first scooby and I LOVE it!
Anyway, my ehaust needs replacing and I was looking to improve efficiency...get alittle more power along with better gas milage maybe. So I'll probably be looking at an intake as well. As for which to use, I know I can find that stuff out by browsing. BUT! As we don't have to go through emissions testing, I was looking to eliminate the cats, so how do I get around or work with the O2 sensor. And are there any other emission items that I can eliminate to uncork the motor?
Thanks in advance...
Sheila

MRT has a full system as does borla - headers back.
consider lightened (probably not underdriven - just lighter) pulley set.
If you are in cold country you could lose the A/C compressor.
Lightened flywheel.
If you get an intake or switch to an oiled panel filter (amsoil, k&n) be VERY careful about getting oil on the MAF sensor. It may need occasional cleaning anyway.
Smaller diameter tires will give a little more grunt but speedo and odo will be off. Just firgure the percentage from mile marker calculations or tire circ. measuements and correct the mileage in you head.
I'm envious, I hope to buy an Impreza wagon (prolly '99-'01 OBS) next year and have been collecting ideas for it. Most folks just face the fact that there isn't much for that vehicle other than suspension mods. If you motor conks out in the future you could put a turbo in it for a lot more power.
have fun - prolly some others will have good ideas too.

i second the pulley set considering it's cheap cheap! for good 5-8hp to the wheels.....
personally, I'm going to go for mr josh lightened pulley once i can afford it.... bout 95$
