I bought a sandrail with a Subaru engine, the seller says it's a EJ22, how can I identify it?

It should be stamped on the block.

the only problem is, there were many different EJ22's, and the only thing I think you'll be able to find stamped on the block is EJ22 (none of the modifiers are available, though, I could be wrong).

Here is a pic of an EJ2501, with the 'EJ25' stamped on the top of the block, in the center. I would assume the EJ22 stamp should be in the same location.

Subaru has all their technical documents online, but for a price. I think it is unlimited downloads for 72 hours for $20. That may have changed recently. Check out http://techinfo.subaru.com

You should be able to search the titles of the documents, before you buy, just to make sure they have the documents you are looking for. The motor you are have (depending on which variant) came in early 92-94 Legacy Turbos (if you are lucky), and mid-to-late 90's Impreza's, Outback Sports and Legacy L's IIRC.

I don't know of anywhere free to download the docs you are looking for.
