ok here goes. i searched here and a few other places and either my bad searching skills or it just isn't there i can't find any discussion about this. i don't even know if this is the correct forum (it was iffy) anywho....i'm trying to decide between a buncha things, rebuilding the engine to max out the N/A performance then maybe turbo later or do a ej20t swap which gets into different trans and a buncha other crap. now the problem comes down to this in my head. before 2000 the RS had the MAF (i think) sensor and for 2000 and 2001 it had the MAP. with the old MAF you get the DOHC and the MAP the SOHC. the DOHC flat 4 is better suited for a turbo application, or so i'm told. however the SOHC has the MAP which is less prone to damage with aftermarket intakes like the MAF which is a very long and complicated explaination do to the unique but kinda complex inteake system of subaru. now if i do decide to turbo a DOHC am i going to hav problems with the MAF crapping out on me, if so does this mean i need to make sure i get a MY00/01 or is there a way i can swap for a MAP system and reprogram my computer to read the signals from that? phew...i hope i didn't forget anything. if anyone's comfused on the MAF MAP stuff (which i'm sure plenty r u can check out cobbtuning.com i remember they had an article before) Thanks to any responses.

 

thanks! so the MY99 has DOHC and a MAP system? so i was off by a year. hmmm i always thought it was just MY00/01. glad to know that tho. i was gona get an aftermarket ECU eventually anyways, prob before i went turbo so that works out well. thanks again.

 

oh oh ok, i get it. it sounded like u said that i was wrong when i said the MY98 had a SOHC and MAF. i get it, so i guess i'm looking for a MY98 and then an ECU change and MAP swap for the best RS-T project. thanks
