Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

lots of poping sound...

old but what the hell. the popping is probably "afterfire". a thing that happens when unburnt fuel ignites in your exhaust. Harmless and sounds cool as hell. If you really wana hear it and you have an auto tranny. Throw it into secong gear and drive to about 38-40mph they let off the gas. It really is evident then.

thanks for all the responses.
Take one out. Crush gaskets don't seal against each other properly. However, the popping sound isn't from the possible leak there. It's small amounts of leftover fuel igniting when they hit the cat. It's normal, and I think it sounds cool.

it's just about impossible to get rid of due to the wasted spark design and zero TPS fuel cut. This causes the cylinders to run too lean to fire on decel. Then the fuel builds up in the exhaust, the wasted spark these ignites the build up of fuel and POP. there you have it.

I have a Hydra Nemesis and when I turned off the decel fuel cut, the pops went away 100%.
So for the low price of 1600 bucks you can get a pop free decel tone and a few extra ponies with WBO2 support, datalogging, infinite adjustability, boost control, turbo timer, knock protection and correction, egt monitoring and correction, backup fuel and spark maps, and anything else you can possibly think of.

Sorry for the plug. I had to.

Actually I'm probably going to run that on my EJ257/SOHC hybrid next year. I'll be giving you a call.

Quick question... what are you going to do when SMOG time comes since you are running cobb cams?

I know that you can bolt on all the stock exhaust peices back on, but the cams are not easy to take out. I've been told, and read a long time ago that you will not pass smog, but have not met ANYONE who has witnessed this themselves...

Thanks,

-Gagan

I'm due for smog next year, so when the time comes I'll put all the bolt on parts back to stock, and just try to pass the smog that way. But if I can't pass smog with all the stock parts minus the cams, I'll prob have to take it out and sell it . I have read on Nasioc that passing SMOG with all the stock parts and cobb street cam should be fine, but we'll see when the time comes.

I'm still debating on selling the car after smog or do an XT engine swap though.

Yay for Nevada... all I have to do is still have working OBD-II. They probably won't even notice I have a complete swap.

Sounds good. When are you going to smog it? If you pass smog STOCK PLUS CAMS, i'll most likely go the NA route, and pick up headers, hi flow cat, and cams. After my smog session in the springs of course!

From the threads I read, seems like people who couldn't pass smog was running the Spicy cams. Others passed smog in their states with the street cams, the only thread I read about an CA car passing or not passing smog with cams was a guy running spicy cams, and he didn't pass.

I found out that we didn't buy the car until May of 2002, so that gives me til May 2007 to pass the smog yay

It depends ENTIRELY on MY..

Back then, it's a 4 year rule. If it's a 2004MY or newer i beleive it's 5 years now.

So if you have a 2001MY car, then your smog request will come for 2005 registration year.

OR if you bought your car used, it's every two years starting with the year of new ownership/registration.
