Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Hybrid 2.5 motor questions.

Has anyone tried mating a phase 2 block from a 2000-01 RS (with the 10:1 compression pistons) to the earlier Dohc heads in a 98 RS.

In laymans terms I want to put my 2000 block inside a 98 DOHC car and will I have any problems with it?

you can try and do this but for the price in parts versus gains it would be cheaper to send your heads to http://www.paeco.com/
get them ported polished and cams because you have the heads off

but if you can get the heads for under $1000 and put them in your self and get different wires, timing belt, new seals and new head bolts. after all this is bought total price should be around $1500 but gains wouldn't be as much as ported and camed heads would be but if you have the time and budget is under $2000 go for the DOHC and let us know how it went

get the thin head gaskets for the hybrid so they match the belt

Actually I've got both motors, the SOHC and The DOHC, but, the dohc is a phase 1 and is due for a valve cover gasket and possible head gasket change, so I figured, while I've got the motor out of the car, I may as well put the Dohc heads on the SOHC phase II block. The car this is going into is a 98 RS, so the head and wiring won't change, just the short block. I'm also thinking about swapping the 4.11 gear and rear lsd combo onto the 98, (I have a wrecked 2000, from which to change parts from.)

Thanks for the input...

Oh yeah, does anyone know if the valves will have any problems with the pistons, or will the valve reliefs in the stock sohc pistons be okay.

well then if you have all the parts from both engines then the only problem is the piston valve clearance

give cobb a call because they have taken alot of 2.5 apart
