Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

How much do we like COBB?

I would really like to break 200hp with my 02 RS all n/a and i've read claims from COBB tuning that they "shatered" the 200 hp mark with just intake, exaust, equal-length headers, and camshafts. I just wanted to kno if anyone has had any experience with them or other opinons in general. Also what the hell is a "refundable core charge?" Does that mean that if i send my stock camshafts to them i get refunded $400??
Thnx

'Shattered' probably means ~202 peak horsepower. However, Cobb has a stellar reputation for quality and for excelent engineering and testing. I for one am willing to take what they claim at face value. Two caveats though- 200 hp probably requires full heads, not just cams, and those equal-length headers aren't for sale yet. That being said, Cobb cams, intake, exhaust, pulley, and headers (if/when they are released) will make for a damn fine RS. The core charge means that you either give them the $400 up front, which they refund when they receive your stock cams, or you send them your stock (or junkyard EJ25 cams) with the $500 for theirs.

I'd bet more like 215-220hp. They were making 220hp before without equal length headers or their intake but with headwork.

The headwork is far more productive than bolt-ons. But you're probably right, it's likely more than 200 by far. A complete Cobb 2.5 liter motor is probably pretty close to 230 hp.
