which headers

Brullens look like a steal, their headerback gives 21hp gains! TWE is designed nice, but I dont know how much they charge for SS, and noone has dyno results, gtech results, or even butt dyno results for them.. Brullen is very soon going to get a grand of mine. I think a 13 sec car is possible with the following.
Brullen Header
Stromung Catback
Mr Josh's Pulley
Exedy 9 lb flywheel
Cobb Clutch
PROECM Chip
Cobb Street Performer Cams (Or Club Spec if they'll pass emissions)
Cobb Heads
Bored TB
Cobb CAI

How can differing exhaust change power output (sorry, I'm a dumb newbie, too)
What are pullies?
What is underdrive?
In fact, not related, but still a terminology thing, what is the differece between understeer and oversteer? Wrong catagory, I know.

Ok, how exhaust works 101... Your engine pumps air in, adds fuel, makes it explode, and pumps it out. Bigger exhaust helps out by making it easier to pump the waste gas out.
Pullies are the things turned by or turning the drive belts at the front of the engine. Lighter ones take less power to spin faster. It's easier to spin a lighter chunk of metal. Underdrive makes it so the other pullies (alternator, A/c, etc.) are spinning slower relative to the crank pulley than with stock. This also requires less engine power.
As for under/oversteer, there's a really good thread about what they are and how to tune your handling in the Suspension forum.

I raced a MY99 RS, he had Borla headers and a stromung catback. At the time I had an intake and a cheap *** muffler. He pulled on me pretty damn good. I raced him before he had the headers and we were even. Sold me on the Borlas, they most definitely give more than 3hp for him to pull like he did.

SPO motorsports stocks SYMS stuff I believe. Out of the ones you listed I would would expect the Cobb to perform the best, but they are pricy, ranging from $650 for uncoated no cat to $950 for coated with cat. I am very happy at this time with my Borlas.
There are 4 brands of equal lenght headers out there:
Brullen
MRT
TWE
and COBB (to be realsed very soon, you can re-order now).
If you're thinking of making your car a fast N/A car, I suggest you get either one of these. I've heard very very good stuff about the Brullen and MRT. TWE still has no dyno to my knowledge. COBB will be coming with there dyno in 2-3 weeks, if not sooner.
I currently have the Brola headers and the Brullen cat back. I am considering equal leght headers cuz I want the best I can get from my 02 RS.
Having said all that, I think(but not sure) that:
Borlas + hi flow cat + cat back = very loud.
equal lenght header + hi flow cat + cat back = less loud than above combo.
and that's my .02 here

TWE has a dyno out for an RS-T. SYMS headers are also equal length. I have MRT headers, but I honestly think I should have gone with Borla. YES I have extra power but the car still isn't that fast and the Borlas sound a lot better.

Just an update from the last time I posted on this thread. After I installed the Borla header on my modded 2000 RS, I installed a Randon Tech, free flow cat. The combination fit perfectly and a cell fix by Cobb was also installed. No problems and the low end got even better along with midband and high end. The combination is a little loud, but tolerable. Most recently I replaced a custom midpipe and an JDM STI Type RA Exhaust. The reason why I change the two pieces is that I felt they were holding back the potential of the Borlas and Random Tech and really had a buzzy annoying sound. I replaced them with a 14lb. JIC Bullet Titanium Catback and all of the above powerbands increased dramatically. The sound without the silencer is deep and throaty, but a little to loud and IMO should be only used for the track. With the silencer in, it still very deep and throaty but 7dbs softer, without an noticeable loss of power. Highly recommended.

Has anyone had any experience with the MRT header? I will be getting it soon but would like to know if they are any good. Will it make the biggest difference over all my other mods? My 92' Legacy 2.2L currently has a 2.25" cat-back/cannon, and K&N short ram, their the only engine mods ive done so far. I want to do as much to my car as possible without going turbo, not that i dont like a turbocharged car or anything but i'de prefer to wait until i buy a WRX to experience a turbocharged car.

Thanks for that Kostamojen you've just sold me. But is the MRT header you've had experience with the same as the ones over here in Australia? Because MRT is an Australian company arent they? Do you have any idea of what kind of power gains they will produce?
