I have a 1993 Subaru Impreza L. The gear shift gets stuck on occasion. I can get it to move by giving it a couple of whacks. After a months of this, a piece of the plastic on the cover broke, which allowed me entry into the inside. I can now see the lever of the mechanism. Instead of whacking it, I now just push the lever with my finger. My car has to go thru inspection next month, and I need to get this fixed. In no way am I car mechanic, but I am very bright and handy. If anyone has any suggestions on how I can remedy this, I would gladly appreciate it. Thank you in advance

 

I had the same problem, I just took off the shift boot and pull out the shifter portion and relubbed it with some grease, Also you may want change your tranny fluid and lube the bushings in your shift linkage, also check the throttle cable lock nut it may be loose. Good Luck
