Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Fuel System Problem

Working at this for a while now, and i've come to a complete stop. For some reason my engine isn't getting enough fuel. I changed the filter, didnt fix it. Then I changed the pump, still nothing. Any help would be great.

How do you know it is the fuel?

because i can keep the car running on starter fluid. i did some research today, and i think i've narrowed it down to the fuel pump relay. whatever is powering the pump after the car is running isn't working properly. when i start the car and it goes to die, i can switch the key back to run (i know it's bad for the starter) and it will deliver the correct amount of fuel. so obviously whatever is powering the pump when the car is running (which i think is the pump relay which comes from the ecm) is bad. now i have to find where the relay is. my local subaru tech told me it was up behind the fuse block under the dash. he also told me it was a green relay with 4 wires coming out of it. i found a blue plug with 4 wires, but that's about it. so now i have to wait until the dealership opens tomorrow to find exactly where the relay is located, and how much it costs... if anyone has any idea where the relay is, or where it's located for that matter, i'd appriciate it. thanks.

Problem solved! After dinking around with the fuel system for a few days and not coming up with anything, I decided to unplug my already pain-in-the-*** MAF. As soon as I did that, the car will stay running when I give it gas. A lot better than dying everytime I start the car. We have fuel! So it looks like one last trip to the dealership, and I should be back on the road! If anyone knows where I can get my hands on a factory air box for a 99 RS, I would be very greatful. I know, wrong forum, but I figured I'd ask... Thanks!
