First performance tweak

I posted this question in the turbo section by accident; so here goes again.
I am looking to get a bit more performance from my Forester. It is an '00 with about 50k miles, and is getting kinda sluggish. What sort of preliminary tweaks would you recommend, with best bang/buck. I am not looking to make a street racer here, just get some punch. I will likely do some suspension tweaks as well.
Thanks!

first thing i would do to a car with 50k mi is an inspection and general maintainance and repair- tune up, spark plugs, wires, air filter etc.
if you're looking for bolt on performance gains and intake and exhaust parts are always a popular option.
for suspension, strut bars and sway bars are a good way to stiffen up your ride without too much sacrafice of that daily driver quality.
good luck

Try a Ganzflow Intake if you dont want to spend $250 on a Cobb intake. Also look into lightweight crank pulleys, those help a bit with that slugish feeling. You could also find a local muffler shop and have a catback exhaust made that wont sould too loud or look street-racer-ish.
Suspension wise, ive seen some comments about STI forester springs floating around but I havent found where they are sold. A WRX 20mm rear swaybar will work on a forester, along with I believe most rear swaybars designed for Imprezas as well (like redbaron mentioned, they help). Also look into better, stickier tires as the forester tires are not the best in the world when it comes to handling...
