First Mods on 05 RS?
Hey guys, I'm a new member here, and so is my 05 RS. (which I love)
Its new and its stock, with Sports Package.
I'd also like to remind you that I am a total car noob, knowing minimal (but i learn fast at least, which is what i hope to do here)
I'd like to know what I should do with it soon.
I was browsing the forums and learned some stuff but it had much to do with the other older years.
I'd like power mods of course, i'm not much for looks, although I would not like too much noise (don't want the po-po on me) from a catback/other exhaust options. I'll probably do intake and exhaust for the first two mods that i'll do.
Should I wait for a KN Cold Intake to come out for 05? Or should I just go get a stock air filter? I do want some low end power. (Doesn't Cold Air Intakes lower low end power?) Anything other than KN you guys recommend? I know some ppl said that any Mass Air Colds can do it... but I want to install it with minimal modding.
For Exhaust: I am pretty much lost here. I don't konw what headers or catbacks to get or whatever, someone please enlighten me on this one.

Hi. Headers are from the engine down to the first cat ,a cat back is an exhaust from the far rear catalitic converter to a performance muffler. Some do away with atleast one cat. I think we have 3 cats but I am not sure where I am new to subaru myself, over from the lifted Jeep crowd. Enjoy your subaru, I love mine.
If you want to do it piece by piece, start w/ the catback. Since you're car is NA, you should stick w/ a 2 1/4" midpipe and the can doesn't matter. I noticed a lot of people are selling a used Prodrive exhaust can for pretty cheap. Take it to your local muffler shop and have them fab you up a 2.25" midpipe. That along w/ a intake should give a little help in the HP department.

Like all Cobb products, good but expensive. If you can afford it, go for it.
If you buy a new exhaust system, buy new hangers. Aftermarket cans are generally high quality SS so heavier and you'll need hangers that can handle the added weight.

My brother has an '05 RS. Recently, he installed Cusco F/R Strut Bars, and is awaiting a whiteline rear sway bar...so that he can do both the front and rear sway bar at the same time. He also has whiteline endlinks, waiting to go onto the car.
As for power mods...depends on the amount of money that you have. As for intakes, etc. what was mentioned above seems all good, as in intakes, headers, port/polish, throttle body, etc. One other thing to consider is the Rallitek Perfect Power (I think version 6, at rallitek.com) but you can check their website. With said engine mods, the PP will add to the inherent HP...and then, some rims/tires/brakes, and you are good to go.
Too bad you NA guys can't add turbo very easily...but then again, gas becomes a lot easier to handle...since you don't need premium. Oh well...good luck with your decision.

How simple is it to install the Rallitek PP 6?
Gah, I hate wires.
But I'm more of an electrician than a mechanic... Eh
Can someone also send me a link to a Stromung Exhaust for the 05?
BTW: I plan to work on suspension after I get the Intake and Exhaust.
