exhaust question
exhaust question
i have an 05 2.5 rs. im new to subaru's so i dont know a lot about them at all. i was looking at the exhaust on my car and the exhuast on a friend's wrx. is it possible to bolt on the axle back section of a wrx exhuast onto my car?? the muffler looks straight through so it should make for a better tone. where the two exhuasts bolt together on my 2.5rs and the wrx look the same. can someone tell me if i can do this??
i have looked at this too, and i believe that the axle backs are the same. if you try it the worst case senerio is that it would not work and you would have a new gasket. (if your cars are new enough you may not even have to buy new gaskets). good luck and please post what you find since i too want to know if this works.

To quote myself from an exhaust reply I just put up to crazee195's thread about 30 seconds ago:

Also, the flanges are at slightly different angles, something like 45 degrees or so.
So, you can put a WRX axleback onto an RS by rotating the flange, and getting an adapter to mate it up to a stock or stock-designed (but larger in diameter) midpipe. You need the adapter because the flanges themselves are of a different shape, so the bolts don't quite line up. Also, just hack that one hangar arm off, and mount a new/generic one on that points to the left, so it'll meet up with the hangar itself.
Otherwise... the WRX axleback is 2.25" in diameter, where the RS axleback is 1.875" in diameter. 2.25" is ideal for non-turbo cars, so it's a cheap/free (depending on the seller -- mine was free!!) axleback, which gets you most of the way towards a cheap exhaust upgrade. Add a custom midpipe, or a Stromung or TWE unit or something, and presto, there ya go. I have a Stromung that I found for half price on eBay.
