Ok just purchased a 1999 Subaru Impreza 2.2L and the clutch is shot so I gotta replace that. (not sure which way to go with that.) But I been hearing that a 2.5 Rs clutch will fit a 2.2L... then I also dont know which way to go with upgrading the car. First I was just gonna try and do a EJ20T swap getting a motor from nippon motors. But then I was readin the stuff about a ej22t from the legacy turbo's wasn't sure if that would fit in my car with doing just a engine swap or just rebuilding the block with ej22t parts and going from there.... all in all.. I DONT KNOW WHERE TO START! HELP! oh btw rims are already picked out.

Swap is something to consider if you feel that you are mechanically adept enough to do it. Since you are from NC, you should check the laws, mainly emissions, in regards to your swap.

If you want to pay someone else to do your swap, chances are you'll pay more money for the swap than you would if you just gone out and bought a used WRX.

In regards to your question about fitment. You can take any engine from 93 all the way to 07 and it'll more or less fit. You might have to make a few minor adjustments, but as far as I know, the layout is generally the same, I think.

 

ok so I recently took the 2.2 on a trek to texas.. and moved down to dallas. Theres a lil spot down here called Jhot. they have a ej20 turbo motor that I can get for about 1300 bucks 60k miles on it. it just so happens that a buddy of mine has arp head studs and some gaskets for the ej20.. I think its a sign

 

Do your research first. If you have connections and you have the money, I'd say go for it. Keep in mind that the installing part is the easiest. Wiring is what makes or breaks the project. You have several choices for wiring. You can splice it yourself. Pay someone else to splice it. Or run a stand-alone ECU. I am not sure of the details of any of these methods, but know that this will be the most difficult part of the project. Good luck.

If you could find a EJ22t block. I don't know what your local laws are like, but the EJ22t would never fly in California.

I think the best way to go about a swap is to get a WRX clip. That way you have everything you need to make it run. Block, tranny, turbo, exhaust components, wiring harness, brakes, etc.

 

the ej22t may never fly, but thats y u keep everything else legal man... keep cats and keep everything looking stock and u wont have any problems.. or just move to another state right after u do it! hehehe
