ECU reset

How do you reset the ECU? I want to reset it to put in a proECM.com chip on my 2.2. Thanks.

un plug the negative side of the battery, press on the brakes for 30 secs. wait a few hours, plug it back up. warm it up and drive.

Do you really have to wait a couple hours? Thought it was just disconnect the negative connoector and press on the brakes til the juice is out.
