I don't think $500 plus core is all that bad. I'm sure it could be done for less, but until Cobb has some real competition, I think he's being fair. Installation can be pricy, but it's not that bad if you are familiar with engines. And no other mod can make your EJ25 faster without FI or nitrous.

I won't get into why I think the price is too high, just price other import cams (or domestic for that matter)... remember, these things are regrinds, not new cams. As for install, I can't help you there. I had mine installed while my engine was already out of the car and the tech just did the work in his spare time. As for what they feel like, the street cams provide very linear power throughout the power band. They do fall off as they approach redline but the mid-range is great. These are not high reving cams, your car will not feel like a turbo but you will have a big fat torquey power band.

In terms of 0-60 or a 1/4 mile. Are these "Street Cams" worth the dollar? Do you think with these and a couple of regular blot ons the RS would run an easy low 15's?
Does anybody have any prices on install for these things? Cobb is awesome thats for sure, but are these cams worth the enthusiast?

OK, leaving out the different cars respond differently to the same mods argument... I've got a MY99 with Cobb street cams, custom header/high flow cat, UD pulley, Weapon-R intake, MSD ignition wires, ProECM (at the time), and a few "tweaks" like the TB bypass. On FIS' Mustang Dyno I made 160 ft-lbs @ 4500 rpm and 146 hp @ 5250. The WRX guys were making more hp but very similar max torque. In a flat out head-to-head I'll hang with most stock WRXs until tripple digits. The power band difference and the boost of the WRX makes things interesting as a decent driver in a WRX and me in my car will trade noses several times (he pulls, I pull, etc). As for 1/4 mi, I don't care really but by simple deduction it should be 14.7-ish. Take that for what its worth. BTW, at the same dyno day a low-boost RHB5 turbo'ed RS made only 10 ft-lbs more than me but that was at 2400 rpm and fell quickly after that!! The cam'ed power band is very fat everywhere, not peaky like a trubo.

I have heard about the MSD Ignition System, but what are MSD Ignition wires? Do these help alot? In terms of the feel for the car what do the cams feel like? The only mods that I have for my car is
-Weapon R Intake
-N1 Catback
-Mr. Josh's Pulley
-Borla Headers
Soon to come mods
-Random Tech High Flow Cat

ImprezFan1, the MSD wires are custom replacement spark plug wires. Rather than use Magnecore, which are pricey and have fit issues; or the Nology or Direct Hits which are very pricey I chose to re-use the stock boots and terminals and swap out the wire. You can buy a roll of MSD 8.5mm spiral core wire for ~$40 from Summit Racing and have more than enough for 2 sets or wire. I submitted a write up on http://www.scoobymods.com.

OK, the stock ignition system is pretty good... but it has its flaws. The stock plugs are good, the coil is great but the wires are absolute crap. Stock wires are made by Packard and are a graphite core high resistance wire. MSDs (and most other aftermarket wires) are graphite wrapped with a copper conductor and have very low resistance compared to the stockers. The wire "size" (8mm, 8.5mm, 10mm, etc) is actually the thickness of the whole wire (insulation and core) not the core. The "thicker" the wire the thicker the insulation (which = good). The MSD wires were such a low resistance I had to increase my spark plug gap from 0.042" to 0.060" !!! Spark plug wires will not net you any more power, they should get you better MPG and throttle response though. As for brands that sell just the wire, MSD and Moroso both sell just the wire but the Morosso is crazy expensive. You may also be able to special order from Accel but I'm not sure.
