Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Check Engine Light

I was driving home tonight and noticed my Check Engine light has come on my 98 RS. I also noticed that this happened EXACTLY at 52,000 miles. The car seems to be running fine (nothing acting out of the ordinary) and I'm guessing/hoping that this is simply a normal event tripped by the odometer.... is this normal?

The check engine light just does not come on for the odometer. It could be for a loose gas cap or many other things. Get it checked out at your dealer or somewhere they can pull a code and post it I will let you know what the code means.

Screw the Dealer.

Don't go to the dealer! They will only charge you a ridiculous amount of money for the service that auto zone does for free. Just go to any Auto Zone and ask them to scan your car. It is free and they will reset the comp so that you'll have no check engine light. Good luck.

If it is less than 60 months since your car was originally sold by a dealer, you should get the code pulled for free by the dealer under warranty.

I know I am probably being irresponsible in saying this, but I say @#$# it, if you are sure your car is running alright, let the check engine light be, I've had mine on for about 10,000 miles since I bored out my throttle body, and there has not been even the slightest hint that there is anything wrong with how my car is running. The Subaru ECU is very sensitive (which is a good thing) and certain learning spikes are known to result in an inconsequential CEL. The only thing I would really worrry about is a flashing CEL, or unusual exhaust odors during, or immediately after, hard acceleration...just my 2 cents

I just went yesterday

I just went yesterday and they pulled two misfire codes and a dealer specific code from my volkswagen. I live in North Eastern, PA in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area. I also work in Allentown and the Auto Zone on Airport road by Union Blvd. pulled a code for me last week. The one that I usually go to is the one in Pittston, PA but I also go to one in Wilkes-Barre, PA and they pull it there too. They have never once given me a hard time about it. That is weird that they're doing that with you. The idiot tool jockey behind the counter is probably too lazy to go out and scan the car. Maybe he just doesn't want you to see his fat butt crack when he has to bend over to plug in the scanner. Haha. I don't know if you're near any of these areas, but I hope this helps. Later.
