2.5 Phase 1 head gasket problems?
HI All!
Are you guys having the same Head Gasket as the Legacy's, with the Phase I 2.5 Ltrs? The blow up for no apparent reason! Has SoA done anything about it? Recall? TSB? Anything!! I know that they have switched to a single cam engine now, the Pahse II to combat this problem, they also have a over heat problem, dealers are adding a "Watter Wetter" type product!

Yes, we know all about this. If you want to fix the issue, get a new style metal 4-layer headgasket that the newer 2.5's use. That will solve the issue.

I dont have the part number on hand, but I can get it this week when I go back to the dealer for some other parts. But yes, this is the major part of the solution for the headgasket failure issue. I'm getting a my98 Phase 1 EJ25 right now for my swap, and thats going to be the first thing I do is replace the old headgaskets with the new type.
I'm looking into buying a '97 Legacy GT W/ltr 2.5 . It's had it's lower end replaced by the dealer after a cracked cylinder. I assume that it's had the newer HG set. This work was done 23K miles ago, back in Sept of 2002. If I had that part # I could ask the guy what it says on his receipt! This would be a great releif to me! It would be easier to buy the car. My '92 Loyale with 209K miles on it is DOA in my driveway, needs water pump.....and a new body! Not worth fixing! I need a replacement!
