My friend has an Impreza L and was thinking about swapping his 2.2L for a 2.5RS motor.
Is this a pretty straight-forward swap or is there a lot of modification that needs to be done?

pretty straight forward as far as I know, but as is the wrx ej20 motor, which are preferred, easier to find, and possibly even not that much more $$$.

For the 20 horsepower difference, its really not worth it. If you're going to swap, go turbo.

 

just bought 97 L 2.2 awd auto.
Need some more whp not looking to get much more out of it. 20 maybe 40 hopefully.
Any suggestions on what to buy first?
what cheapest safest route to getting just little more punch in 1/4 mile.
anyone seen these ecu mods that are supposed to add 20 hp to the car they trick the sensor somehow or something.
I heard reprogramming chip is funny becuase it might go into safe mode with bad gas.
I read some got over 200 whp on non turbo 2.2
if i could 160 id be happy.
