168 HP in new Legacy 2.5?

168 HP in new Legacy 2.5?
Probably a stupid question but here goes. I just read that the 05 Legacy will have 168 HP with the 2.5 SOHC. Has Subaru really made any major changes or is this, like Nissan's recent refactoring of the 2.5 and 3.5, simply a change on paper?

That is about half as power gain we see by adding and exhaust system to our older cars.
So, no, they haven't changed much. Maybe if you modified the new exhaust, you would see better gains than changing our single pipe exhaust but 3hp is not going to make up for the fact that they probably also added weight with new electronics, safety equipment, etc. so it's probably the same 0-60 as an 03 or 04.

Subaru is claiming that the '05 Legacy/OB models have lost about 150 pounds so that along with the extra 3 HP should make them a tick quicker than last years cars. The real news is the 2.5 turbo of course but more power for the NA is a good thing. I still wish they had added AVCS to the 2.5 and bumped it to about 190 HP. See more at the Legacy website:
