when to get a "built engine"

At what point are other owners finding it necessary to build the bottom end of their engines with, rods, pistons, sleaves etc.

I am looking for a reference point to know when I need to do this . Info on when I should start thinking about it and when you are definately past the limit of the stock internals would be helpful.

I plan to do drving spriited on the weekends and a few drag strip passes a month.

thank you .

If spirited driving and a few drag passes a month are all you will be doing you will not need rods, piston and the like. If you really need a # then between 400 and 450 but I'm sure some one will say to the opposite.

Hello,

I'm not sure if you have a WRX or STi but if you have an STi, I'd say that if you're making over 465 CHP and CTQ consistantly then you'll want to look at a built block for reliability. You can certainly make much more power on the stock block but I wouldn't plan on your engine lasting long at that power. The first things that you'll need to replace will be your pistsons (with forged units) and your bearings (preferably with coated race units). Our staged 2.5L built motors are designed to replace what's needed when it's needed. Another way to look at it is if you're running a TD06-20G / SZ49 / Green on a 91 all the time, you'll probably be OK. If you've got anything larger (GT30R, SZ55, GT35R), then you'll want look at a built block. This is contingent upon proper supporting mods and a good tune. Please let me know if you have any quesitons.

Thanks,

Geoff
