car: 2002 wrx

what turbo is on it? would any STi turbo bolt onto the ej20? would any legacy turbos bolt on?

basically, a buddy believes that his turbo is dying and wants to replace it. he can get an STi turbo at a good price... so, he's curious what direction to go...

and many thanks for any info/advice.

there are many great threads already on this subject matter. I would go to nasioc.com and check out unabomber's manifesto for more info.

Basically

2002 wrx turbo = td04

STi turbo = VF39

Most common turbo upgrades to the 2002 wrx are, the VF39 and the VF34.

You will also need
TMIC - most ppl switch to the STi top mount
Fuel Pump
Bigger injectors
AND A TUNE!!!!!!- most common is a accessport or custom tune by one of the many wonderful vendors on this site

Hope this helps!!

Most of these parts can be found on websites like fastwrx.com, subydude.com and many of the other vendor webpages.

^ Yep, you'll need some 'supporting mods' along with a turbo swap in a 2.0.

Stock turbo for the WRX is a 13T.

TD04-13T
