Turbo Heat Shield

So I am going to upgrade to Stage 2 either this week or next and I was wondering if I add my catlless down pipe, will the stock heat shield fit? If it doesn't, is an after market one necessary, or should be it safe to run without one?

Thanks Guys!

well ive heard both sides of putting one on and not needing one

i know plenty with vf34's and they dont run heatshields with their catless down pipes!

but it doe keep the heat away from ur TMIC!

ur choice!

i say get it though

it has to be helpful

less heat means more power in a turbocharged car!

i would definately get the heat shield. the colder the air is the more compression you can get because cold air is more dense then hot air.
but even so, just having that heat shield will keep the rest off the parts under the cool alot cooler, and it will save you some long term corrosion and give you more power
i would do it, and i say go for it

Not sure if the STi heat shield would fit your downpipe, but I know the stocker on the WRX won't fit most aftermarket downpipes. It can be cut to fit, but there are various aftermarket pieces (Cobb comes to mind) for $50 or less. It's probably worth it just because it's easier and looks better. I would guess you're in the same boat with the STi, but not sure.

I hacked my heat shield when I installed my dp. I just cut it in half where you see the indent.

It does keep heat away from your TMIC.

Yeah you can cut it to fit, but it wasnt worth the hassle to me. I went w/the Cobb shield & the SPT shield to keep heat away from the IC & underhood components. Its also a good idea to wrap your AC drain hose, pwr steering lines & elect harness near the downpipe w/asbestos sleeves for the heat. I know personally w/mine & even w/both heat shields the asbestos sleeves I put on have been turning brown. I think you'd be crazy not to run a heat shield & you'll have serious heatsoak issues when pushing hard on hot days.

Just my 2 cents.
