TSR 70 engine build

Hey guys,

I'm debating upgrading to a APS TSR 70. I have all the supporting mods necessary now fuel system included. My questions are many however. If any of you "in the know" could let me know about my options on the following I'd appreciate it.

-What, if any, internal mods should be done to run a TSR 70. I'm looking to make 500whp which I know on this turbo is entirely possible. Keep in mind I run 93 octane in my area.

-What upgrades should be done to the cooling system (if any). Will the APS DR 725 intercooler cover it or do I need to upgrade my intercooler, etc...

-Is anyone running a TSR and if so what are your observations? Is there anything else you would have gone with or is this as good of set-up as I presume it is.

-Lastly, is it worth it? I've already calculated my payment on a GTR and wonder if I'd be better off just selling the STi. I love the car and have a lot in it now but wonder if I'd be wasting my money in the long run.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

You sir, are a wise man for calculating the possibility of affording a GTR. Although I hope you factored in not just monthly payment, but fuel consumption, insurance, and the scheduled maintenance (which is crazy expensive). If you did, and can afford the GTR, then do it, because a PROPER tsr70 build, or twin-scroll GT35R requires a boatload of money. Here's an example of a TSR70 build designed for power: https://www.i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=191149

Make sure to read both pages, as there are updates, and more photos of the work done. It's a ridiculous amount of work doing a GT35R or larger turbo build, if doing it properly (ie: fully built longblock and fuel system). I'd personally go with the GTR, and I only went with a built GT30R system. Still came close to spending as much as a new GTR on both the STi, and all the parts/labor over the past 2 1/2 years.

P.S. Get a white one!

I know it, I definitely like the GTR but there is something to be said for a modified car that is all your own. My insurance is pretty steady so not really a concern and the amount I spend on meticulously maintaining my STi is probably comparable to a GTR. I use only Motul fluids and have bought the best of everything. So a total engine rebuild is required. I know some people run a GT35 and 30 with little or no work done to it. I'm just not sure if the massive labor costs will be worth it. After riding in a big turbo car though it definitely makes you want to spend the money.

Just remember the "GTR" has a glass tranny!

Take a test drive in a GTR and see what it's stock setup with factory warranty feels like compared with a GT30/35 STi. Believe me, there is a difference. There's a reason the GTR can lap the 'Ring as quickly as it does. It would take more than just the TSR70 build I linked you, as it would also require a widebody kit, some 18x10.5 wheels with 285's, and a very proper suspension setup. The GTR does it all in stock form without requiring a complete replacement of the suspension, longblock, and turbo system. The transmissions on GTR's are fine, just don't drive like an idiot. If you prefer straight line drag racing action buy a Z06 instead.

Yeah, I do like the Z06, my friend has one. I already have an Ohlins suspension on my STi and it's pretty well set up. I'd put it against anything as far as handling is concerned. A widebody kit and some 10.5s would be pretty baller though.
