For those with an upgraded turbo on their STI..

The DB TD06 20G is a pretty good spooler when it comes to upgrading the stock turbo on the STI. I'm currently running it and have no issues with it being much more laggy than the stocker. Maybe couple hundred rpms later spool time but it comes with an ample more power than the stock turbo. With the amt of power under the curve than the sotcker I sure don't mind. My ideal setup would be usable power on the street and occasional track. I drove at Willow Springs with a 20G and found the hp/tq to be at a satisfactory range unfortunately exceeding my suspension setup. Hate to divert the original post-er elsewhere but Nasioc.com has ample info on the DB20G.
FYI, if you are into the "much more top end" with close to stock spool I would run the SZ49.
The 20G is good for mid range but the SZ49 is better for top end; not that either is lacking.

I think it was worth it but the best money you ever spend on your STi (power wise) will be the first $2000 or so you spend on your TBE, maybe headers, and definitely a tune. Expect to gain 40-50WHP and ~80WHP for that money. After that it gets really expensive to get good power out of the STi.
I've run both a Gruppe-S prototype TD05-20G and TD06-20G on my STi and like both of them very much. However, for the cost of ~$1600-$2000 (not to mention a FMIC, Big MAF, etc.), your increase in power won't be nearly as good a value as the your TBE and tune.
To compare the TD05-20G and TD06-20G to the Stock VF39 (Gruppe-S 4WD Mustag Dyno, 91 Octane):
-Completely stock: 220WHP / 220WTQ
-Stock VF39 w/ headers, 3" TBE, Protune / Ecutek: ~260WHP / 300 WTQ
-TD05-20G w/ 850cc injector, Walbro FP, headers, 3" TBE, Protune / Ecutek: ~285WHP / 305 WTQ, peak torque at 3200 - 3400 RPM, spools faster than VF39.
-TD06-20G w/ 850cc injector, Walbro FP, headers, 3" TBE, Protune / Ecutek: ~315WHP / 325WTQ, peak torque at 3600 - 4000 RPM, spools 200-400 RPM slower than VF39.
I'll have to post all the dynographs sometime but what isn't apparent in the numbers is that we absolutely love the TD05. It spools faster than stock and offers insane insta-torque. It is probably the best turbo we have ever tuned for a "street" setup. This would also be ideal for auto-x. However, this turbo runs out of breath fast after 5000 RPM. In contrast the TD06 is comparatively laggy but pulls hard to redline.
Thanks,
Geoff

I am looking at the Deadbolt TD06 20G. Anyone have real world experience with this turbo? With Deadbolt Enterprises? Can anyone tell me the benefits of oil AND water cooled as opposed to just oil cooled?
Of course I plan to do all the supporting mods: injectors, ebc, upgraded top mount, etc.
Any insights would be helpful and appreciated.
Thanks ,Darren.

hey Darren.
I guess I'm someone with "real world experience" with the TD06H-20G, Deadbolt, and support mods.
The 20G is similar to the stock turbo. Most of the power will kick-in in higher RPMs and there is minimal lag. The suggestion I received from my tuner was the turbo should of been external wastegated.
The big reason why I went with the Deadbolt was the customer service and the lifetime rebuild. Jerry and the boys will answer every e-mail, even if it's a hi.
"Was it worth it?" It depends on what you really want. If you're just aiming for monster numbers, I'd go bigger like a Minizilla or a Superzilla.
rocket man,
i have to get my IWG fixed so i still have an issue with creep. i'm curious as to what your tuner's advice was regarding going EWG. the boost creep i'm experiencing might be enough reason for me to go external.

on iwsti guys with the 20g and a front mount and meth can hit full torque before 4000 rpm which is on average about 400. not much slower than a stock spool and defintely a lot more power that will pull all the way through the band. and with a tmic it should spool even faster but not as high number.

"An external wastegate is generally better to run on larger turbos for finer
boost control, better spoolup, and better overall power, because the
wastegate gasses re-join the main exhaust gasses later in the downpipe." -per EQ Tuning.
Porting the wastegate is a popular option to elimating boost creep.
