what it does is connect the hood/grille inlet directly to the airbox, without the snorkle that resides in the fender.

you should hear more stock BOV noise with this mod

I did this last weekend to my 05 STi. I replaced the silencer with an elbow
from rallitek. I'm not sure if it made any difference at all I think I hear a
bit more turbo whine now. I still don't think I've heard my BOV yet. This is all from behind
the wheel. I don't know if it made it louder for people who hear me drive by though.

I've done it on my '04 STi, haven't heard my stock BOV yet, but the turbo spool is more audible than before. I would love to hear the pssshhtt (yeah, I am so rice), but I know what problems an aftermarket BOV causes, so I remain stock. All in all I am quite happy with the elbow delete.

It replaces the silencer box with the elbow connector.

I did the mod a few weeks ago and replaced the snorkus with the elbow. It didnt make much of a difference although you can hear the BOV a little more. It was at least fun to work on the car and after all thats why we do it.

intake elbow

does anyone know if adding the elbow vs. just leaving nothing there help? I have taken out the air silencer, but so far have not had a cel. Is it worth it in my case?

You don't want to do this.

You don't have anything to hold the airbox in place in the inner fender.

When I cut out the silencer (and the hood air intake) from my old '02 WRX, I cut apart the silencer to keep the part that connected to the airbox, retaining the bolt that secured it to the inner fender, and then I used a fender plug to fill the hole left when I removed the hood air intake.

Simply, this keeps the airbox from rattling around, which is bad for the sensitive MAF sensor.

The delete elbow helps both by keeping a stock look since it retains the hood air intake, but it connects the hood air intake directly to the airbox, thus securing it to the inner fender.

well if you're fine with your airbox just rattling around in there, pulling in warm air from the engine compartment because its not sealed to the inner fender, then just leave it as is I suppose?
