STI 05 Dyno at Harman Today
I had an AP installed 3 weeks ago by Dan Harman of Harman Motive. Dan is one of the best if not the best tuners with Cobb AP in So Cal. He intalled my AP and loaded his 91 stage 2 map for me to run around for a few weeks until he has time to run my car on the Dyno. I had him installed a catted PDE downpipe and the fitment and quality was excellent. No leaks, no vibration, just smooth power delivery and quiet! I chose not to install aCatback at this time to see how much I can get out of a catted downpipe and a dyno tune.
I do not have a base Wheel HP of my stock 05 STI as reference, so some of you can provide me with yours for references.
Dan managed to get 280whp and 316 lbs of torque for 91 gas with his effort and he said he was surprise just a catted down pipe will yield this much. For some of you that have similar mod, please share your output to me as reference.
With 95 gas, Dan got 292.75 and 332.18 torque but he was not trying really hard to go for more since I told him I don't race or track the car much. I guess I can do another dyno when I needed to in the future. These are safe maps according to Dan and he could have gotten a little more if I wanted. I want a reliable car!
We took a run near his shop and I did a few runs and I had a nice grin. So I took of for home. I have been driving about 30 miles after and noticed some differences from his stock stage 2 91 maps. While I really enjoy the smooth and even delivery of power of his stock 91 map, I could not control my exitement when I press the throttle and get this quick spool up and push back thrust. I tried a few time on the freeway driving leisurely around 70 at around 2500 RPM and just squeeze the throttle down. With just a quick squeeze, I got this rush with a nice deeper roar form the stock exhaust and PDE downpipe. The car just propel forward quickly for and settle back to my leisurely pace. I guess with the added torque and increase HP I don't have to down shift if I don't want to.
Hmm !!! What if I changed to a better flowing Cat back? I guess I maybe looking for one that is quiet, fit the PDE downpipe and well made.
By the way, there was another guy with an STI that Dyno 360 Whp with more mod and he left with a wide grin from his face. Thank you Dan. I want your stock 91 map also when you have time to load it as another realtime map. Whoa!!! AP is slick to change map when I feel like a different driving experience.
If some one can host the dyno chart, I can send you an email and have you put in on the thread for other to see.

I briefly talk with him but he was busy paying his bill with Dan. I know he has bigger turbo, TMIC, bigger radiator, no water or acohol injection yet, and definitely Protune with AP. He got 360 Whp on 91 gas and Dan says with Acohol injection, he can probably get 40 to 50 more on 91. I'ts like running 95 octane as with 91. He took a test drive with Dan and came back with a grin. He said there is a little more lag compare with stock, but when boost comes on, the push is fantastic. I think the tuning for the broader torque is nice in normal driving.
There was another guy, Scott I met last weekend at the Auto-X has 421 Whp on a stock turbo with a after market TMIC. His car has no wing in the back. He said he was tired of cops seeking WRX with wings.
I don't have to shift gears as much to get some power out of my car now as I normally do to accelerate. I can't wait for the CF drive shaft to go in. I was told I need to learn to shift faster since redline comes fast! During my test driev after the tune yesterday, I hit rev limit in second becuase I did not expect so so.
A few cars tried to play with me last night on the streets and fwys and I just squeeze the pedal and let go and my car propel past them and back to lower speed. Just to tell them don't mess around. Hopefully I don't run into 350+ whps Evo, Corvette, or other hot cars. i don't race with people normally, it's just these guys see you and they think you want to race. I don't want to get any more tickets and want to stay out of extended speeding.
Hmm!! maybe I need those front rotors that drop 10 ilbs per side to get the sprung weight down. Might help the acceleration too.

Thanks for the nice review Everett. I'll put your graph up tomorrow.
The other STI was running a GT30R setup with Ecutek/UTEC combo engine management.

360 is huge with a TMIC! And how the hell is the guy putting down 430 whp on a stock turbo??? I call BS on that one...
Nice job on the 300 though. That sounds reasonable... thats about where i was before I upgraded to a FMIC and FP Red.
Well, I did not see the gragh but talked to both Dan Harman and Scott, the car owner. I have a pic of his car on a post relating to Team Blew Auto-X.
Is there a trade off between more torque vs throttle response? I get power sooner with less pedal depression but the engine does not wiing as fast especially in 1st. Maybe scale back boost to prolong engine life? The stock Harman Stg 2 91 map seems more boost faster in first before, but feel less power but REV faster.
