Smog problems need help!

I just tried to smog my 06 wrx with 136k miles and I passed everything, but not the sniffer. It blew a 1.99. The car is stock besides a cat back, and Cobb intake with sticker. I have no idea why it failed. I used to have my access port installed(uninstalled for smog) as well a catless dp obviously not on the car. I let my friend use my down pipe to smog his car and it passed about 3 months ago so I don't think it's the cats. I know I could put e85 in and probably pass, but if like to get whatever is wrong fixed. Anyone have any ideas? Suggestions? I need it smogged before the 21st. Thanks so much!

Sniffer? The new smog laws don't require sniffer for 2000+ vehicles.

****. Just realized I'm going to have to smog one more time before the law goes into effect! I wonder if I do a planned non-op until after september 13th, and then re-register it, will I have to smog at that point?

Did you make sure that you engine (and cats) were appropriately hot? How far did you drive (and what type of driving, highway or street) before heading into the smog shop? How long was your car off at the shop before actually taking the test?

I drove maybe 5 miles to the shop from my school. all street driving, but my car was fully warmed up, and only off for maybe 10 minutes waiting. We did 3 different tests, all three with the same results

1.99 what? HC? O2? Idle or high rpm?
Get a ELM blue tooth OBD2 reader and download $5 Torque SW app to check all sensors. If you're in south bay I can hook it for you with my hardware.

it was at 2500 rpm constant, at idle is was at .01 which was fine. i held it at 2500 for 3 minutes each time and the same result occurred. I may have to take you up on that one. i think i might try to get up to san jose tomorrow or thursday to get some e85.

Go for a 30 min drive before test, don't turn your car
off when you get there.

kinda sounds to me like your catalytic converter might be fried. Try re-running the test with some e85 mixed in, it might be enough to get you into the acceptable emissions level. I have an OEM downpipe in Sunnyvale that you can borrow for a day or two to smog if you really need one.

Premium as in 91? If it is a turbo subaru, it already pretty much HAS to be on 91.

However, you might want to try it one more time and give it a really good warm-up that will get the catalytic converters working properly. A nice hard ride up the mountains should do it, or 30 minutes around the freeway might as well I suppose.

I let my friend smog his car with my downpipe about 3 months ago and the sniffer was not a problem for him. this makes me think it is something besides the cat. but if worst come to worst I may have to take you up on that offer.

thanks jarek. Im gonna do this before i retest with some e85.

one question i do have is, if i pass with e85 and what not, could something be wrong with my car causing it to fail so bad? is anything being harmed by it?
