Random backfire

I have a 2006 sti that is all stock, it just passed 29000 miles. In the past week I have got two random backfires while I shift through the gears. Both times were on different days and through different gear changes. The first was shifting between second and third and the second was shifting from third and fourth. RPM's were around 4500 at the shifts, thats where I have the little beep set at on the tach.
The car runs fine, no leaks, no hesitation, oil is good (changed last weekend around 2900 miles), the coolant is good. Could this be an exhaust leak at the heads and exhaust manifold?

Sounds like an exhaust leak or possibly a bad tank of gas. Bad gas can either throw off the fuel trims and cause a rich condition. A leak in the BPV return line is also a possible cause. We're here all day today if you'd like to swing by.

Thanks

I only use 76 or shell gas, not saying that those are the best but I never use the "cheap" gas stations. I will look at the vacuum lines. Sorry Ed, Fairfield is just a little too far to drive today.

No problem... I know its a long drive. BTW, even the brand name stations will have a bad tank once in a while.
