Backfire
I have a TBE and uppipe using the stage 2 with uppipe Utec map. My question is, I seem to backfire alot, sometimes with a flame out the exhaust. Now this looks cool , but do I need to lean out my mix a little to stop it? Is it safe to be that rich?
Thanks..
Thanks..

If you have an aftermarket 'BOV' venting to atmosphere, then you will blow fireballs, sometimes.
Venting to atmosphere causes a over-rich condition on shifting and excess fuel goes 'BOOM'....
If no BOV, then tuning is in order....Shouldn't hurt to be a bit rich..better than too lean.

I had the same problem. No cats, 100% bov. *** ton of afterfire. I finally got sick of it and just put my stock cbv back on. Havn't shot a fireball since. I guess venting it all off really does make you run rich. I don't have a utec though. So let me know your solution. I have a 200$ blitz paperweight on my desk that I'd like to put back on.

You can't vent 100% to the atmosphere and NOT overfuel...thus causing the fireballs. Some 'BOV's" are 'tuneable' and allow the amount vented to be adjusted. This allows a 'happy medium' in venting and fueling. GFB makes one and Worxtuning makes another, there may be others but I don't know.
IMHO, the ONLY reason to use an aftermarket 'BOV' is if you HAVE to because you are using a FMIC or you are running over ~20psi. boost and NEED one.
