Newb Here: Sti Top Speed
I'm very close on purchasing a Sti...But all my friends out here in sunny so. cal are into their rear wheel drive cars and their "straight line" speed. Z28 turbo, 300Z fully built, etc...they are always ragging on me I would get destroyed on the freeway if I had a Sti.
I'm aware the Sti isn't made for flat out top speed.
Just wondering how does the car feel/pull past 120mph?
Thanks!

RWD, FWD, AWD these will have nothing to do with how the fast a car can go or how fast it will reach its top speed.
There was a thread on here a while back that said 145ish was the top speed. Now IIRC, after 120 it was slow going, but that might have been for the WRX. These are small engined turbo cars so top end pull will suffer. You can of course always get a larger turbo to get around that top end lull.
Do a search for the thread: max out in Colorado. Or some thing like that.
Well ok, two modfied cars against a stock STi, that seems like a fair comparo. Seriously though you can mod an STi and make it just as fast. Have you seen the track built STi thread, the owner guy says it pulls like a V8 and he's "only" putting out 306WHP. You have people like SubyDude with 400+WHP, I can't remember his exact WHP number.
The STi might not be a great drag because the AWD will typically make it start a bit slower than a RWD car, but on the freeway starting from a dead stop usually isn't a problem you need to be worried about.
Also, tell your friends to slow it down and think of the other people on the intersate.

How accurate is the speedometer at that speed? Don't they usually begin to be off by 5 or so mph's. But the STI is so smooth at high speeds, you can tell there was time spent on the aerodynamics. I have had mine to 150mph. Very suprised, prolly never do it again, unless the time calls for it, but now i can say i did it.
your speedo @ "60 mph" is usually +/-3 factory.
edit: something that's actually not a bad idea to do is to take a friend with a stopwatch and get on the freeway, set cruise to an indicated 60mph and clock your distance between mile markers seconds per mile = miles per hour

HAHA my dad did this on a cross country trip in the 70's. He totally unhooked his speedo, etc.. so it wouldn't put miles on it and that's how they checked their speed.

At that speed you have no reaction time and people aren't expecting to have a car approaching them at that speed so they might accidently or inadvertantly do something that could get you and/or them killed.
I wasn’t paying much attention but when I did look down at the Speedo. It was dam close to 160mph.. FYI.. It was insane.. There is no need to go that fast on a public road... Yes i am a hypocrite. I hope that answers your question. FYI it also pulls all the way to the end.. It felt like it still had more..
