Making atmosphere release work?
Making atmosphere release work?
on STOCK sti or wrx, is there a way to do 100% atmosphere release and making it work by tuning or any other method?
i played around with stock bov, took the recirculation valve off and plugged it.
nice hush of air sound but man, idle is bad, lag, fuel smell, etc etc, everything is bad with it...can it be fixed so it is possible to do 100% release without physical modifications?
or is there a aftermarket bov out there that can somehow make it work?

with a MAF system it can be tuned to give slightly better drivability, but VTA BOV are not worth the trouble IMHO
You are releasing air that has already been metered therfore running rich because the engine ecu still thinks the air is incoming.
The stock BPV is fine but if you must have that whoosh sound there are really only a couple ways to do this correctly.
Get EM and run a blowthru MAF on the cold side
Run a 50/50 BOV like the APS or Perrin
or EM w/ an expensive conversion to run a MAP sensor like a Honda
cheaper way would be to remove the snorkel in the intake
will cause the BPV release to be louder
good luck

Get a true bov. When you run the stock bpv to release to the atmosphere its crappy because it is letting out some air during idle. I had no problems with my HKS plenty of people here bovs.

Avoid the VTA BOV's like the plauge.

if yo do go full BOV you are gonna have to flash the ecu or you will always run rich. recirc that it comes with is best. less spool up time
thanks for the input, my best guess was tuning it, i do plan on getting cobb ap v2 and get it protuned, maybe i'll stick a bov then. or look into 50/50 for a quick fun.
i hear people with hks ssqv is doing fine(at least not noticeble) with their sti without tune or modifications. iam guessing that it just makes it worse with stock bov to go 100%.

i do have synapse synchronic bov but i havnt had the chance to put it on because my friend still cant find his wrx flange.
and ITS FREAKING HUGE, its much bigger than expected, gonna be a bit tricky to install. its about twice the size of hks ssqv, length wise.
