K&N RA intake issue?
K&N RA intake issue?
I just installed my KN intake unit. I have a few questions. It seems to have lost its torque through first gear... not real bad it just does not seem to move as fast as is sounds like it should, i can see some what of an arguable power gain in second but launch time seems a bit slower. I noticed it also roars and sounds a bit like a BOV with throttle on... i cannot tell that there is a leak so i dont know whats going down here... is this normal, am i just so used to the launch time of the car i am over thinking the power gain of the unit? the first few miles it seemed like i encountered extreme boost creep during acceleration but that has broken in i believe.
The car has not over heated.
if the car is set to idle or driving at a set speed it sounds fine but under boost it sounds a bit... leaky.

Put the stock box back on w/a high flow panel filter. Many posts of short rams drawing in hot air & pulling ign timing (subsequent power loss). More money + More noise + less power = lame. Or get AP & pro-tuned to help. Your intake should not cause boost creep issues & you'd definately know if you had a boost creep issue. The OEM box is not a restriction unless your pushing serious wheel HP. Sell it, get an elbow delete & call it a day. Enjoy the power back from not drawing in hot air now.
Later.

Also, you have a MAF based car. Stay away from oiled filters (K&N-Green Etc.) the oil (yes even the pre-oiled from the factory) can/will foul your sensor. We get at least one car a month, with the owner wondering why it is stalling, farting and knocking. Guess what, we pull the K&N and put in a stock STI paper filter and it's gone (after cleaning the inside of the rest of the intake). If you MUST go aftermarket go with the dry HKS triple foam drop panel.
Intake? are you crazy? my cousin tried it with his 05 sti and it would only turn on if you took the sensor off. intakes arent good at all. get a filter!! thats what i did! a nice high flowing filter! and when u have the money to tune ur car for an intake you can. =D

Thx for your holier than thou opinion & every one is full of shxx attitude.
Does that change my opinion that an oiled filter is wrong for a MAF car? No.
Sorry you did not like my "shxx attitude". But this topic has been debated to death ~ don't believe me... do a search. I have watched at least 20 cars in the last two years come in with this problem at our dealership.
Not "holier than thou". Simple fact ~ get over it!
