The K&N flow rates are absolutly terrible for a filter that cant catch anything smaller than a oak tree. So what have we concluded from todays lesson?
1. K&N flows WORSE than almost any reputable filter available.
2. K&N filters WORSE than almost any reputable filter available.
Basically tests prove it should be at the bottom of your lists when buy a filter. See this is exactly what I mean about this topic. Even though the facts are in people still want to find a reason to spend $50+ or more on a K&N even after they are proven crap.
stay informed.

As for the test, it is a big eye opener. I got my K&N for free and I use the K&N cleaning kit to keep it cleaned and properly oiled. I may just go back to OEM filters (at least for offroading) after reading the findings.
The quote that really took me by surprise was this:
"Compared to the AC, the K&N “plugged up” nearly 3 times faster, passed 18 times more dirt and captured 37% less dirt."

I think the funniest thing is when I did go to order a K&N air filter, the number that matches the 06 WRX was not even the right size. I have recently purchsed a typhoon system and will try to see what gains, losses it produces on a dyno and will repost then.
In my noob opinion...
the typhoon intake allows for more air to flow into the motor so I am not sure how that is a bad thing.
and my question is that the filter that was tested was specific for a Ford diesel, which is a different set up than the typhoon is.
if oil is bad for the MAF, why is the stock filter oiled and how is that one not bad. I guess I should reread again, but I just dont get it.

I have a Green Filter, similar idea to the K&N but more pleats and much better materials.

I've had Blackstone Oil analysis done a few times and my Silicon levels are normal showing that the filter is doing it's job properly.

Green Filter suggests cleaning it more often than the K&N. I do mine a few times a year. One thing about any oiled filter is the risk of over oiling. I like to oil mine and then let the filter sit overnight on some shop rags. This wicks out any excess oil. That works for me.

Thanks for the advice. I think I am going to be calling the shop that will be doing my tune for the exhaust and see what they reccomend.

My reasoning for why a CAI > SRI is because the IAT(Inlet Air Temp Sensor) in the MAF is one of the factors for adjusting/advancing timing. Colder air more timing. (Although its a ****-poor location for it, it should be in the Throttle body after the IC or have 2 for calculating turbo/ic efficiency.)
Note: No aftermarket CAI or SRI is good for a stock WRX.

I read this as Restriction, In. of H20 across the filter(Actual pressure drop across the filter) as CFM increases. This chart alone shows that the K&N flows the best. I may have misinterpreted it but thats how I read it.
