Initial 06 WRX Dyno Results

Hey all,

We finally got an 06 WRX in today to do some testing. Here are some dyno and AFR graphs for you to compare. This car was completely stock.

1) 06 WRX Dyno Graph

2) 06 WRX AFR

2) 05 WRX VS 06 WRX (both stock)

Mike, our tuner, had the following to say:

"It appears that because this car is running pig rich 9.9:1 afrs we should be able to make 25whp just in tuning and while also improving the overall curve. Something else of note is that the MY06 has uses a closed loop switch over that started in MY04 (due to restrictions that manufacturers have to adhere to with the exception of one vehicle in their lineup; Subaru picked the STI to be exempt so the WRX, Legacy, Baja and FXT all have to adhere to the closed loop parameters). With tuning, we can remove this switch point or speed it up (I would recommend a little of both) as I can safely say all MY04+ cars knock from time to time with the onset of boost and lack of fuel due to still running in closed loop."

Cool graphs.

Be careful with the knock... my STI does not knock. Don't let anyone tell you its ok for your engine to knock. Also, you can tune to get some hp by leaning the mixture (all good tuners can do this) but make sure your injection system can handle it. Upgrade fuel pump, rails and injectors so that you can run closer to the line without crossing over it. Finally, get an EGT gauge. If you see a spike above 1400 you may be running too lean. Mine hovers between 400 (idle) and 1200 WOT.

This is my car. The car is completely stock and is running stock boost - 13.5 PSI. It has 1200 miles thus while the break-in period might be behind the full settlement of the engine might not occur before 2-3k miles.

Stock STi's put down around 215-225whp on our dyno. The 06 WRX was running stock boost.

Thanks,
Preston

easy not all dynos are created equally.........different brands will yield different results.....different conditions will yield different results.....hope this answers your question

Also dyno calibration makes a difference.

Wow...that's a huge difference!

Makes me really want an '06...only problem is that I can only transfer half of my aftermarket parts to the new car

At least I can take all my expensive stuff like TBE, rims (I think...right? 5x100 bolt pattern?), BOV (ha ha you bet your anus), and sounds. OK I guess that isn't half but the TBE and Rims are the most expensive that I have...yeah I suck.
