increase MPG mods

Hello all,

I am picking up my Baja T soon and was wondering what recomendations all you have for me to put on my wish list. If I do an exhaust replacement, I don't want it loud at least not mutch louder than stock.

Thank You,

Ben

increase MPG?
try those swirly things for the intake

if u want more tone to the exhaust, but not too loud, try just getting an axle back muffler

start with that, see if u want more sound

increase mpg = add lightness. remove what you can, replace with lighter items what you can't. It's expensive to get more MPG. Drive conservatively.

Don't floor it all the time, and if you don't mind, do some weight reduction, (bumper beams, protective metal by your knees, etc)

I don't know if you are a believer in grounding mod, but I am. I put some grounding wires in my wife's car(2000 Legacy Outback) just for the kick of it. The car gained like 30+ extra miles every tank. So I put the wires on my STi, and the it averages 240 miles every tank vs. 200 miles before. YMMV tho.

Just from a couple wires? That sounds too good to be true.

I had a tank that went 140 miles That was a trip I went with friends on some mountain roads, and my car was almost always in boost. I had like 1/2 tank left some where in the middle of no where, had me worry a little.

I would say 220 miles per tank is about average for STi. (before my gounding mods that is  ) Oh yea, I normally drive pretty slow, WOT may be once every week the most.

if you're doing an exhaust just for the MPG its not worth it if you spend a few hundred dollars or more...because the MPG difference and the gas you save will not makeup for the initial cost of what you spend for the increase in the MPG...unless you sell those mods for fairly close to what you got them for later on but i dont think that'll happen

For the quiet exhaust, check out Borla.

the stock cat-back system is heavy, so replacing it will save several pounds...

The best I have gotten is 21 mpg a tank, average is 18mpg. I drive mostly highway mileage. The sub freezing temps dont help.
